Marine Encounters

About the Show
The Marine Encounters series, hosted by Emmy-winning outdoors reporter Scott Broom, explores the most enigmatic mysteries of the Atlantic and Caribbean Oceans. It covers the natural and supernatural phenomena that are peculiar to these areas of the world. Marine Encounters is sometimes spooky, maybe even a little scary, but it’s always fascinating—and the underwater photography is spectacular.

DANCE OF THE DEVIL RAYS: They weigh in at 2,000 pounds, with gaping mouths and long, whiplike tails. A person would have to be crazy to swim with manta rays, but not in Tobago! In the warm waters off this relaxed Caribbean island, lucky divers call their run-ins with these massive mantas the “dance of the devil rays.”

WILD DOLPHIN ENCOUNTERS: Around Bimini in the Bahamas, wild dolphins have become downright bold in approaching snorkelers, and no one knows why. People spend hours interacting with these amazing creatures. “Wild Dolphin Encounters” tries to answer the questions: What are these creatures? Where are they found? Are they endangered? What sorts of interactions are OK?

MANATEES—FLORIDA’S GENTLE GIANTS: Despite the Federal Endangered Species Act, the population of manatees have suffered serious setbacks. These giant mammals, also known as sea cows, are threatened by boat strikes, habitat degradation, and mysterious illness. You’ll witness the dramatic rescue of a manatee clinging to life after being struck by a boat, and heartwarming encounters between manatees and swimmers.

MYSTERIES OF BIMINI—WHEN SPIRITS COME CALLING: This show investigates psychic encounters on the tiny island of Bimini. Cameras roll as a spirit takes control of a woman's body. A schoolteacher collapses after experiencing a past-life flashback. A woman guides a skeptical boat captain to a pod of dolphins using telepathy. And there’s much more, including visits to the mysterious Healing Hole and Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth.

SHARK ENCOUNTERS OF THE BAHAMAS: Take the most exciting undersea ride of your life! Come with us as we swim within touching distance of sharks. You’ll discover why these misunderstood sea creatures so seldom attack humans, what their place is in the world’s ocean habitats, and why we’re more of a threat to them than they are to us.

SHIPWRECKED IN BERMUDA—TIME CAPSULE OF THE ATLANTIC: Embark on an extraordinary undersea exploration of one of the Atlantic Ocean's most lethal ship-killing zones—500 years of maritime disasters all crammed into a watery graveyard only slightly larger than Manhattan. You’ll see for the first time everything from 16th century Spanish caravels to the steel hulk of a modern warship, entombed forever off the shores of Bermuda.
