Pulling In

About the Show
Wanna find out what it feels like catching, or "pulling in," one of the biggest, most dangerous waves in the world? That's exactly what the Water Channel Special, Pulling In, captures – the unique combination of exhilaration and fear that compels otherwise sane athletes to put life and limb on the line to ride these saltwater monsters.

On O'ahu's famed North Shore, you'll witness firsthand the awesome power of the legendary Banzai Pipeline – a humongous wave that's been described as "seven seconds of sheer terror." Feel for yourself what it's like to try to catch the perfect "barrel" as we talk with pro surfers competing at the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters, the crown jewel of the surfing world tour and the sport's longest-running event (35 years and counting!) .

We'll check out seasoned vet's like world champs Kelly Slater and Andy Irons, as well as big names Bruce Irons, Mick Fanning, Jamie O'Brian and the legendary Sunny Garcia. Plus, we'll pick up inside info from today's new generation of wave chargers; hot surfers like Makua Rothman, Kavika Stillwell and Dustin Barcca.

Then, journey with us across the Pacific to exotic Tahiti and discover the huge wave known as Teahupoo (pronounced – cho-pu'). You'll see why it has earned the respect of all who dare face it and the reputation as one of the two biggest and most dangerous waves in the world! Get a bird's eye view of Tahiti as Hawaiian tow-in pioneer and big wave legend, Derek Doerner, fills you in about the thrills and dangers of "risking it all" for the ultimate ride.

If you crave extreme thrills, inside dope you can't get anywhere else, and incredible sights, Pulling In is one special you do not want to miss! Stay Tuned. Pulling In is coming soon. “Pulling In” a Water Channel Special, was produced in conjunction with Kauai Sound & Cinema Productions

Banzai Pipeline – Wave

This quintessential surfing break got its name in the late 1950s when Bruce Brown, the famous surf cinematographer, shouted out "Banzai" while narrating the film "Surf Surfari" as a surfer was catching a vicious wave. When the Banzai Pipeline is "cranking," with 20-30 foot walls of water forming an awesome hollow "tube," it's the most spectacular wave in the world, and the most dangerous. The waves are steep and powerful and break furiously on the shallow reef - the cause of many broken bones and lacerations.

Teahupoo (pronounced – cho-pu') – Wave

Teahupoo is Tahitian for "bone crusher" and this 25 foot plus wave has a curling break with tubes "big enough to drive a car through." It's also been called "a hideous, deadly barrel promising a heap of trouble for even the most capable of surfers...no other surf spot extracts a higher toll than Teahupoo, the heaviest wave in the world."
